How to design a multi-language site?

There are times when we need to develop multi-language sites. This is simple and can be achieved with the help of FaLang extension which is similar to JoomFish 1)


  1. Content Element XML files (can be downloaded from You need to have an active license to download the file.)

How to install?

  1. Install the FaLang extension following the usual Joomla! installation procedure (You may skip this step if you have already installed this).
  2. Make sure the plugins System - FaLang Database Driver & System - Language Filter are enabled and this can be checked from Extensions → Plugin Manager.
  3. Go to Extensions → Language Manager → Content and click on “New” button.
  4. Install your desired language pack (Tamil has been used for the documentation purpose).
  5. The screenshot below shows an example of creating new language content for Tamil (IN) and save it.FaLang New Content
  6. Enable and position the module FaLang Language Switcher.
  7. Download the above zip file and extract them to <root>/administrator/components/com_falang/contentelements. Please note that you need to manually extract the zip file to the above location and you cannot install it from Installation page.

How to translate?

After the installation is complete,

  1. Login to the back-end and navigate to FaLang → Translation
  2. Follow the simple 3 steps as shown in the screenshot.Translate Items
  3. Repeat for other contents like JoomBri Projects, User Groups, etc.
JoomFish is only compatible with Joomla 1.5 only
